    A New Low Bit-Rate Image Coding Scheme

    • 摘要: 提出一种新的低比特率图像压缩编码算法,该算法能够通过以下措施提高SPIHT算法工作效率:①结合人眼视觉掩蔽特性,对不同区域内图像信息所对应的小波系数赋予不同视觉权值,以保证优先传输视觉上的最重要系数;②结合增设预先测试及合并前两次扫描,优化了SPIHT编码方案的分集排序过程.仿真实验结果表明,所提出的图像编码方法是一种高效的图像压缩算法,其压缩效果明显优于SPIHT等编码方法(特别是低比特率下).

       

      Abstract: In this paper, an embedded image coder is presented, which provides very effective, progressive image transmission while achieving superior visual performance for SPIHT. The visual gains are achieved by exploiting human visual masking characteristics to weigh wavelet coefficients according to their perceptual importance, causing a reordering of the coefficients. The reduced bit-rates are achieved by merging the first and second passes of the SPIHT algorithm. The experiment results show that the new still image compression scheme provides higher perceptual quality and higher PSNRs than SPIHT etc., especially at low bit rates.
