Texture Synthesis by the Border Image

    • It is often difficult for existing texture synthesis methods to preserve the border structures of the sample texture. Because of this, a new method is presented that makes the borders to take effect in producing new textures by a border image so that the border structures can be well preserved, which is very suitable for a type of texture called “the texel-style texture” that is composed of some independent color pattern units. In this method, a border image is extracted first from the sample texture. Then, guided by the border image, respective synthesis methods are used for the two kinds of the texel-style textures, the overlaid texture and the un-overlaid texture. They are the “patch overlaying method” for the overlaid texture and the “patch matching method” for the un-overlaid texture. Compared with the existing methods, the method presented can preserve the border structures more efficiently to produce satisfactory results for the texel-style textures and run fast.
