Abstract: The vi screen editor is one of the most useful utilities in the UNIX systems.At first this paper outlines the environment for vi program running,aim and significance of Chinese-characterized vi,then discusses the 10 major problems encountered in the course of characterizing vi program with Chinese,and at last describes the methods of implementation Chinese-English compatible screen editor.
