Abstract: In this paper, a brief review of structured programming and the emergence of N--Sflowchart is given. It is easy to know that the eme-rgence of N-S flowchart is due to the need of structured programming. In recent years, there ’have been new improvements of modular and structured programming. Jn order to be adapted to new conditions, the following two formulations are proposed on the basis of repeated deliberation and application. The first one is an improved plan of structured flowchart which has a higher degree of integration as well as greater ability of indication than N--S flowchart, and makes it more convenient to use diagrammatic algorithms, and the second one is the plan of various kinds of modular diagrams which can make modular programming diagrammatic and merge it into an integrated system of box--diagram of modular and structured programming, termed simply as "MS--diagram".
