Abstract:
Partitioned broadcasting scheme is a kind of efficient schemes for popular videos in video on demand system. In a partitioned broadcasting scheme, a video is divided into several segments and each segment is sent over one channel in cycles. In this paper, a new partitioned broadcasting scheme is proposed for broadcasting popular videos, called extended exponential broadcasting (EEB) scheme. The resource requirements for EEB scheme, i.e., the number of server broadcast channels, the client storage space, and the client I/O bandwidth are analyzed. Also analyzed is the relationship between user arriving time and the resource needs of the user. The results show that EEB scheme is compatible with conventional transmission at the user end, and it’s easier to implement.
