Abstract: The heuristics that the incremental property of data set and the similarity of parameters bring to the design of incremental mining algorithms is analyzed and discussed within the levelwise framework of the sequential pattern mining algorithm. Four principles for incremental algorithm design are given, along with a detailed analysis of search space partitioning using the task disassemble principle.
