Abstract: In this paper an ARQ based error control scheme for Internet VOD is proposed, which aims to settle the conflict between the Internet service mode and the requirement of VOD. It consists of out of sequence error detection, NACK error notice, selective retransmission, buffer management, and require list management. The proposed scheme responds quickly to transmission error and allows multi retransmission with few state information and control information. It can be easily realized because it doesn’t need special support from network protocol. Experiment results show that the presented error control scheme can efffectively reduce video packet loss rate without violating its realtime requirement.
