Abstract: This paper briefly describes the parallel processing computing theory and introduces the transputer and OCCAM designed according to the theory of Communicating Sequential Processes, reflecting some aspects of the current status of fifth generation computers. The industrial and academic actions for maintaining and developing the UK's world leading position in parallel processing are also mentioned.
