Abstract: A new fractal block coding approach based on the concept of fixed vectors is presented. The approach uses linear combination of fixed vectors to code the flat area of image, and adopts hierarchical thought to deal with the fractal coding in the complex area of image. Experimental results show that this fixed vector hierarchical fractal coding approach achieves higher compression rate, and the speed it codes and decodes are much faster than that of the standard fractal block coding method.
