    A Case Study of Grid-Enabled Visualization

    • 摘要: 科学计算可视化是数据和计算密集型应用 ,传统上常使用并行方法处理 随着计算机硬件性能的提高和网络技术的进步 ,主流并行可视化平台从高端并行机逐渐转变为PC集群和联网PC并开始面向互联网获取资源和提供服务 网格作为面向互联网的分布式计算方式 ,它的出现拓展了可视化应用的资源利用和服务提供范围 ,促生了可视化领域的一个新研究点 :面向网格的可视化 介绍了面向网格的可视化的研究内容、研究现状以及一个基于Java的面向网格可视化系统原型GVis

       

      Abstract: Scientific visualization is a process which involves massive data sets and highly intensive computation.Traditionally, it has been applicable and practicable by means of parallel techniques.With the increasing developments of computer hardware and network technologies, the hardware platform of parallel visualization has shifted from high-end parallel computers and graphics workstations to PC clusters and network connected PCs.Together with the tremendous evolution of the Internet, visualization applications began to utilize resources and provide services over the Internet.As an enabling technology for Internet wide distributed computing, grid favors a new research direction, i.e., grid-enabled visualization.In this paper, the state-of-the-art of grid-enabled visualization is surveyed and a Java-based grid-enabled visualization prototype GVis is proposed.This case study is a preliminary attempt to enable resource conglomeration, task coordination and user collaboration of visualization tasks by utilizing grid technologies.
