Abstract:
Region connection calculus (RCC) is one of the fundamental theories in qualitative spatial reasoning (QSR). RCC only supports region objects but not multi-dimensional objects which include point, line and region. It’s such a serious disadvantage that hinders the applied development of RCC theory. The conception of region is extended, point and line are regarded as special regions, and the MRCC theory is proposed. Within MRCC, 8 RCC axioms are kept, and two new MRCC axioms are added. 36 basic relations are deduced from those axioms. Finally the reasoning problems are discussed. MRCC extends the applicable range of RCC theory, and improves its applications.
