Abstract: The LSI/VLSI technology for local networks is becoming a key factor in the hardware and software design of local network system. With VLSI, the local networking boards and supporting software can be substantially simplified. In this paper, Intel 82586 which fully implements the CSMA/CD access protocol, and Intel 82501, a typical serial interface adapter are introduced. A token bus controller is discussed too.
