Abstract: Since early 1980’s,great progress has been made in speech recognition and synthesis,speech coding and real time processing,and multiple spoken languages machine translation（MT）, which contributes much to the research and development of automatic translation telephone systems.The advances of automatic translation telephone systems are briefly introduced, and the principles and properties are analyzed in the paper.Finally,some important techniques and problems in implementing automatic translation telephone systems are discussed.
