Abstract: MIDS （Multimedia Intelligent Database System） is an object database management system ODBMS. The choices of architecture are important for its performanceand functionality. In course of architectural decisions, we consistently follow the following criteria: performance is more important, and many kinds of functionality can beadded in an application on top of an ODBMS, but poor performance generally cannot beimproved at the application level. In this paper, we discuss and compare many optionalarchitectures for ODBMS, and then make a decision on the architecture of the highestperformance.
