Abstract: Deviation detection is an important heuristic method for discovering knowledge in databases.A formal description of the problem is given,and a linear algorithm for deviation detection is put forward.Its basic idea is the same as the thinking mechanism of human beings,that is to say,an element which makes the series change heavily is considered an exception.
