Abstract
Secure multicast plays an important role in multicast applications Generally, the implementation of secure multicast is to try to let all the members in a multicast group to share a common secret key When any members leave the group or the key is compromised, the group key should be changed, which is called the group rekey It is a very important issue that the group rekey should be scalable and reliable The method of batch key retransmission (BKR) is used to solve the scalable issues, and the packet retransmission or forward error correction code (FEC) etc is used to solve the reliability problem Using WKA(weighted key assignment) a new method is proposed to meet the requirement using a layered key tree with different weight Based on the analysis of the requirement of group rekey and WKA, a method of an adaptable group rekey is put forward This method uses a prefix code in a key tree The location of the changed node can be easy to calculate in the tree This gives an accurate basis on how to layer the tree Simulation result shows that the method has an advantage over WKA
