Abstract
This paper presents a plan of ageneral-hardware-oriented parallel database machine GADM, whose architecture is ring-forest structure. In the GADM. several tree-structured database engines are connected by the ring local network, so that a distributed paralle: database machine is constructed Each database engine includes multiple sub tree processing elements The element is a small multiprocessor subsystem with two-level-tree structure being tightly coupled by the sharing memories, and the element also involves multiple disks for parallel I/O The GADM is of better performance/cost ratio and better practicability The high parallelism can be achieved in multi levels of the architecture of the GADM. In this paper, the architectural parallelism of the GADM is analyzed, and the design principle for the GADM. which can eliminate the performance bottlenecks, is also given quantitatively
