FORWARD ERROR CONTROL SCHEMES AND UTILITY IN REAL-TIME NETWORKED MULTIMEDIA APPLICATIONS ON THE INTERNET

Packet losses decrease the quality of audio and video in real time networked multimedia applications on the Internet. The research work is focused on the schemes about how to reduce the loss rate and how to recover the lost data. The method combining forward error control （FEC） schemes with rate control algorithm can efficiently reduce the loss rate and recover the lost data. The research effort is concerned with the translation of real time multimedia data based on the IETF standard, The method is applied in a real time multimedia system. The result shows that the schemes work very well.
