Abstract
Mobility management is a challenging topic in mobile computing environment. In this paper, a self-adjusting mobility management strategy is proposed, where a controlling parameter m is introduced. In order to balance the cost of location update against the cost of location query and to increase the performance of the system, a mobile adjusts m according to the forecast tracking time calculated from the real time of tracking the mobile by means of exponential average. The details of the algorithm are given. Furthermore, the strategy proposed is compared with the basic mobility management strategy and the pointer forwarding strategy.
