    Migrating Entities to Improve Real-Time Performance in Large Scale Distributed Interactive Simulations

    • Real-time sensing of the environment is important for entities in a simulated world. However, in the case of fixed “simulated entity-host” relationship, entities may frequently fail to receive information needed timely due to the system’s dynamic behavior. In this paper, the degree of “non-real-time sense” is first defined. After the analysis of the information transfer latency, entity migration is proposed to improve simulation’s real time performance. Problems concerned, including the discovering of entities to be migrated, the coordinating of different migrating requests, and the performing of migrating, are all studied in detail. The experiment under HLA/*RTI validates the study.
