A COOPERATIVE WEB CACHING SYSTEM BASED ON CONCENTRATED MANAGEMENT

    • In order to reduce average delay and bandwidth usage in the Web, intermediate proxies usually store copies of popular objects. The sharing of caches among Web proxies is an important technique to reduce Web traffic and alleviate network bottlenecks. An important issue in cooperative caching system is to decide where to look for caching objects. Multicast queries or URL digests schemes is often used in existing caching systems. Based on the analysis of existing protocols, a new cooperative Web caching system is proposed in this paper. The system uses proxy manager to evenly distribute HTTP requests to proxies, thus avoiding communication overhead among proxies. At the same time, the processing burden of each proxy is greatly reduced. Each active proxy is effectively organized to process objects from different servers and queries from users under dynamic networking environment. The physical proxies are effectively organized in one logical large proxy. The serious duplicates among proxies caused by ICP are greatly reduced.
