THE DEVELOPMENT OF VIDEO SEGMENTATION TECHNOLOGY

Due to the growing interest in MPEG 4, MPEG 7, and digital video library, significant research effort has recently been focused on content based video coding method and object based multimedia data access and manipulation technology based on video segmentation. Video segmentation is a key technology in a new generation video coding, video browsing, Internet multimedia interacting, etc. Some important video segmentation methods are analyzed and compared, and recent research status in this area and the existing problems are also described.
