An Expert System Approach to Database Design

Abstract:In this paper,we propose a new approach to database design——Expert System Approach based on a knowledge-based system or an expert system.A specific expert system,called ERGTORS,is defined and implemented with TURBO PROLOG on IBM PC and its knowledge base is composed of a semantic network(ERG)portraying the application and a set of production rules for transforming the semantic network (ERG)into a set of relations of relational databases.With ERGTORS as a design tool, we present a set of resulting relations produced from a given ERG.
