GSRP—A Message Transporting Protocol Supporting Connection Resumption and Session Migration

Abstract
The principles of persistence, globalization, loosely-coupling and the separation of content from transporting are concluded from scenarios such as grid user environment and the characters of mobile network, and the Grid Service Request Protocol to support connection resumption and session migration is proposed.The GSRP consists of loosely-coupled application session layer and message transporting layer, which manages the content and interaction of messages and the packing and transporting of packets separately.The global persistent session handle provides programming interfaces for the coordination and mobility among different hosts or different processes, and the soft connection links persistent session handles and the underlying network channels to complete the message transporting.Unilateral operations and delay-tolerance technologies are used in the data communication and status management simplifying the development and maintenance of applications.The design and implementation of GSRP are also presented, which shows that the applications with GSRP functions can result in the abilities of hibernation, mobility and adaptation to the underlying network without obvious overheads, and that the GSRP can meet the networking requirements of the concerned new applications.
