AN ENHANCED ALGORITHM FOR THE GENERATION OF NORMALIZATION

An anomaly in the statement of the well-known Berstein algorithm for the automatic generation of Third Normal Form schemas is identified.This anomaly causes some transitive dependencies to escape detection.In order to correct this situation,the transitive dependency test is altered to check for offending attributes instead of entire functional dependencies.An enhanced algorithm is proposed and validated.As a result of this enhancement of the normalization algorithm,the applicability of an important database design tool is increased.
