Design and Implementation of a Bilevel Image Compression System

This paper discusses the considerations of design and the principles for implementation of a bilevel facsimile image compression system,which overcomes the shortage of compression ability of PC-FAX when it is used as an input to build an image library.The compression ratio of new sys- tem reaches 8～16,improving the efficiency of transmission and storage of images.Many useful tech- niques for image data compression are also discussed.
